California Business Portal - Special Handling

Special handling service is available for filing and order requests submitted in person to the Secretary of State.

The Sacramento office processes all types of filing and order requests. The regional offices file Articles of Incorporation to form a California Corporation* and Statement and Designation by Foreign Corporation forms to qualify out of state or country corporations to transact business in California, process name reservation requests, issue status reports and prepare certificates on behalf of active corporations.

* Please note, Articles of Incorporation containing a statement of conversion must be filed in the Sacramento office.

The average processing time for filing and order requests submitted for special handling is approximately five business days.

A $15.00 special handling fee is applicable for each filing request and a $10.00 special handling fee is applicable for each name reservation and order request. Please include the special handling fee in a separate check. The special handling fee for filing requests is retained whether documents are filed or rejected. The special handling fee does not apply to Statement of Information forms, Statement by Common Interest Development Association forms, or to any document submitted by mail.
