On-line Election Returns Statement of Vote Results of the 46th Assembly District Special Election


Based on the semi-official canvass of votes from the special election on January 13, 1998 in the 46th Assembly District, Gil Cedillo, Democrat, was elected with 6,939 votes (75.72%). Andrew Kim, Republican, received 1,968 votes (21.48%), and Patrick Westerberg, Libertarian, received 257 votes (2.8%).

There were 9,482 ballots cast in this Los Angeles County special election, for a turnout of 14.76%. These numbers will increase slightly in the official canvass, due to the absentee ballots and other ballots which may not have been able to be processed on election night.

Results of the 22nd Congressional District Special Primary Election


Based on the semi-official canvass of votes from the special primary held on January 13, 1998 in the 22nd Congressional District, encompasing Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties, Tom Bordonaro, Jr., Republican, Lois Capps, Democrat, and Robert Bakhaus, Libertarian, will face off in a special general election run-off on March 10, 1998. Vote totals, which will change slightly when the official canvass is completed, were

  1. Tom Bordonaro, Jr. 40,146 votes (29.14%)
  2. Robert Bakhaus, Libertarian, 796 votes (.58%)
  3. Lois Capps, Democrat, 62,013 (45.02%)
  4. Robert Lovgren, Republican, 241 votes (.17%)
  5. Brooks Firestone, Republican, 33,957 votes (24.65%)
  6. Tod Rosenberger, Libertarian, 596 votes (.43%)


Turnout in the hotly-contested special primary stood at 42.22% at the end of the semi-official canvass, with 138,432 ballots cast. It will increase slightly after the completion of the canvass.
